Day 7
Time flys when your having fun!!! We were on the go all day yesterday, so I didn’t have time to blog. Let me back track a minute to catch you up to where we are right now.
Day 5 ended after a quick trip to Philadelphia, PA. We were able to go to the Constitution Center to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall where the signing of the Declaration of Independence (the kids got to see the original document when we were in D.C.). The kids learned a lot about Ben Franklin and his influence on our country, while we walked the city to see some sights. We did drive bys of the house of Betsy Ross and the building where our coins are made, United States Mint.
After staying the night in Philly, we left for the much anticipated New York City. Again, the weather has been ideal! Blue sky, and chilly. Perfect for walking around the city. We started off at the site of the Twin Towers. The guide has done a good job explain to the kids the significance of what happened on this site in 2001. It’s hard to believe that these kids, who were 5 years old at the time, barely remember the event. They are now learning about it in their history textbooks along with events like Pearl Harbor. We went into St. Paul’s Church were George Washington attend church, but is now more know for being the church that housed rescue crews during the 9/11 crisis. It was interesting to hear that while all the buildings around the towers suffered major damage, not one window on the church broke. We continued our walk to lower Manhattan, walking Wall Street and seeing the New York Stock Exchange. From there we hoped on to the Statan Island Ferry to get a view of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan Sky Line. The bus took us back up to Time Square for a couple hours of free time before our show. In smaller groups we did some shopping, dinner and catching the sights of lights in this famous area. We met up again at 7:30 p.m for our 8:00 pm show of Wicked.
Great show!!! We got back to the hotel around 11:00pm. Needless to say, we were spent! The kids went to bed immediately!
That brings us to today….Friday…Day 7
We are on the bus heading to West Point, NY.
Here is what a few kids have to say…..
